BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – The next trilateral gas talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the European Commission could possibly be held on April 13-14 in Berlin, the director for energy markets in the EC told RIA Novosti on Thursday.
“We will continue the trilateral talks in Berlin, most likely on April 13-14,” Klaus-Dieter Borchardt said.
Last week, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Moscow had suggested April 13 as the date for the next round of trilateral gas negotiations, during which the parties will discuss future Russian gas deliveries to Ukraine, as well as transits to Europe.
Russia and Ukraine agreed on an interim gas deal, brokered by the European Commission, in October 2014.
The agreement ensured Russian gas supplies to Ukraine throughout the winter period, after Moscow had suspended its gas deliveries months earlier over Kiev’s massive debt.
The so-called "winter package” deal, which gives Ukraine a $100 discount per 1,000 cubic meters of gas, was set to expire on March 31. The discount was extended for another three months last week.
