MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The film will show “in details how the events around Snowden unfolded, from the moment he left the United States with classified documents and came to Hong Kong, till he received temporary asylum in Russia,” RT said.
Snowden, explaining his actions, says in the documentary that he could no longer “quietly watch as US intelligence spied on people, in flagrant violation of their rights,” according to the channel.
In 2013, former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden leaked thousands of classified documents while in Hong Kong, revealing that US intelligence agencies had gathered enormous amounts of data on US citizens, foreign nationals and government representatives, including heads of state.
Snowden, charged with espionage in the United States, was granted asylum and later a three-year residency permit by Russia.
