A heavy sandstorm hit Dubai and other Gulf cities on Thursday, reducing visibility, diverting flights and causing breathing problems for citizens.
The fine dust settled on parked cars and other outdoor surfaces. Cafe patio tables were quickly packed away, while doors and windows were closed. Migrant construction workers working outside put on surgical masks or wrapped scarves over their faces to help keep the dust out of their lungs.
Dubai airport authorities also reported flight delays.
