BAGHDAD (Sputnik) — The leader of the Islamic State Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi married a young German woman in Iraq, an independent Iraqi TV Channel Alsumaria reported.
"Al-Baghdadi married Tuesday [March 31] a young German woman — a German national, who arrived in Iraq not long ago from Europe through Syria," the channel reported, citing an administrative source in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
The current location of the married couple was not given.
In late March, as many as 70 German women, including nine schoolgirls, left their homeland to join the Islamic State, according to the president of the German Domestic Intelligence Service (BFV).
The Islamic State is a Sunni Islamist militant group in control of large areas of Syria and Iraq. The group is notorious for its brutality and many human rights violations, including on-camera executions of foreign hostages posted online.
