WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States condemns Thursday’s terrorist attack on Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and will continue to support Egypt’s fight against terrorism, according to US State Department press release.
"The United States strongly condemns today’s terrorist attacks in Egypt's North Sinai Governorate in which at least seventeen Egyptian soldiers and civilians were killed and dozens others wounded,” the press release, issued on Thursday, said.
On Tuesday, US President Barack Obama stated that the United States would lift the executive holds, in place since October 2013, to deliver weapons to Egypt.
Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Wednesday that the US decision to resume military supplies to Egypt will boost Cairo's capability to fight extremist groups operating in the region.
