MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The drills were conducted in a "complex target environment" simulating "simultaneous attacks from different directions and altitudes," the EMD said in a statement.
"At specialized sites in the Republic of Buryatia and Primorsky Territory, air defense units launched S-300, 'Osa' air defense missile systems," the EMD added.
Earlier this week, the Eastern Military District announced that over ten aircraft including helicopters had participated in simulated attacks by an "enemy" near the Chinese border.
In March, district anti-air defense troops and artillerymen participated in military drills involving long-distance marches and inter-unit communication practice while district signal troops held large-scale communications drills.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced plans to conduct at least 4,000 military exercises throughout the country in 2015.
