Russia’s fleet of Tu-142 antisubmarine aircraft of the Naval Forces will be modernized in the coming four-five years, an aircraft industry source told RIA Novosti on Friday.
Currently, there are over 20 Tu-142 aircraft in the Russian Armed Forces.
"The modernization will include on-board radio-electronic systems of the aircraft. Parameters of the antisubmarine complex, the navigation system and the weapons control system will be improved," the source said.
According to the source, the "Zaslon" research center will play one of the key roles in upgrading the onboard electronic systems of the aircraft. The company has extensive experience modernizing weapons control system for the improvement of aircraft combat capabilities.
Altogether, there are three companies in charge of the upcoming Tu-142 modernization – the Taganrogsky engineering factory, "Radar-MMS" and "Zaslon".
