Double Trouble: Two Airplanes Struck By Lightning Over Sea-Tac Airport

A University of Washington student captures footage of two commercial airplanes getting struck by lightning.

When Graphic design student, Owen Craft, decided to film the night sky of Washington during a lightning storm, he was hoping to capture something interesting. As it turns out, Craft couldn’t have hoped for a better catch as, not one, but two incredibly bizarre incidents occur right before his camera’s lens.

After standing out and pointing his camera to the sky for fifteen minutes, Craft had just about given up when an airplane about to land at the Seattle-Tacoma International is struck by lightning. As if the image wasn’t bizarre enough already, a second airplane follows suit and is instantly struck by lightning.

“It was crazy,” Craft said to ABC News.  “I’d been outside for 15 about fifteen minutes, and I hadn’t seen anything, but I thought something could happen. And then suddenly, right as a plane went overhead, it got struck.”

Despite the terrifying image, both airplanes appeared to continue their journeys safely.
