Civil Aeronautics director Rafael Fonseca Mora told the Associated Press that the ban, which will be in effect April 5-13, was put in place for security reasons. It also would also mitigate any issues that could potentially occur for incoming and outgoing flights carrying world leaders.
At least 30 regional leaders are expected at the summit in Panama City April 10-11, including US President Barack Obama and Latin American leaders outraged by Obama’s recent declaration of Venezuela as a national security threat.
