MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Parliament member and former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has called to abolish the country’s national oil and gas company Naftogaz, claiming it breeds corruption.
“Ukrgasdobycha produces gas, Ukrtransgaz transports gas. A real reform stipulates keeping these two structures, while the superstructure, Naftogaz, which aims to concentrate money and create major corruption, should be abolished,” Tymoshenko told the 112 Ukraine TV channel on Friday.
Tymoshenko also stated that a commission of inquiry should be established in the parliament to analyze Ukraine's increasing utility rates.
Electricity, gas, heating and hot water prices were adjusted in Ukraine on April 1. The gas price was increased by an average of 285 percent, in compliance with a memorandum signed by Ukraine’s government and the International Monetary Fund.
