The concerts were slated to take place in the cities of Zaporozhye, Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov between May 26 and May 28, according to the company Kvartal Kontsert, which had been tasked with handling the organization of the concerts.
"The reason for the cancellation of the concerts is the situation that shaped around the musician in Ukraine in connection with his performance in Crimea on March 26, 2015", the company said in a statement posted on its website.
Earlier, it was reported that the administration of the Concert Plaza performance hall in Kiev has canceled Bregović's concert scheduled for May 16.
On March 26, Bregović presented his album "Champagne for Gypsies" in the Crimean city of Sevastopol; the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reacted angrily to that performance, saying that Bregović "may face a 15-day administrative arrest, fine or entry ban."
On March 16, 2014, a referendum on the status of Crimea, which had been part of Ukraine at the time, said "yes" to the peninsula's reunification with Russia. The majority of Crimeans speak Russian as a first language and are ethnically Russian.
