ATHENS (Sputnik) – Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis will discuss the country's economic reforms with International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Christine Lagarde in Washington on Sunday, the Greek Finance Ministry's press service said Saturday.
The meeting comes ahead of the Athens' April 9 deadline for its next payment to the IMF.
On Friday, Greek Deputy Finance Minister Dimitris Mardas said the country had the necessary funds to meet a nearly $500 million interest payment to the IMF next week, despite earlier reports suggesting that Greece did not have the money.
The country is expected to repay another $220 million to the IMF on May 1. The next tranche of $840 million is scheduled to be paid on May 12.
Greece's debt to the troika of international creditors, that includes the IMF, the European Union, and the European Central Bank, is estimated to be some $270 billion.
The troika of creditors demand that Greece reform its economy with the bailout deal set to expire in late June.
