MOSCOW (Sputnik) – One person was critically wounded and another 13 received minor injuries when the ceiling of the Korean Union United Methodist Church in Rahway, New Jersey, collapsed during Easter worship, CBS reports.
"Nobody was killed, so, maybe being on Easter Sunday we got a little help from God on this one," Police Chief John Rodger said after the incident, as quoted by CBS New York.
Parts of the church ceiling started falling in at about 2 p.m. local time (18:00 GMT) on Sunday, when worshippers were in the middle of a song, marking Easter, according to CBS. Fire and rescue crews raced to the scene and the church was completely evacuated.
The injured were taken to local hospitals.
CBS says an investigation of what caused the ceiling collapse at the Rahway church is ongoing and the site of the accident has been cordoned off with yellow tape.
This year, Western Christians celebrate Easter Sunday on April 5, while Orthodox Christians will observe it on April 12.
