MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet with envoys of Syria's government and opposition during the current round of talks on Syrian reconciliation in Moscow, the talks moderator, Vitaly Naumkin, said Monday.
"I do not know when he [will meet them], as the timetable is difficult, but he will. Probably, without journalists," Naumkin said.
Later in the day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said that Lavrov's meeting with the envoys was possible. He added that the press would not be allowed to the meeting.
The second round of intra-Syrian talks is taking place in Moscow from April 6 to 9. Previously the negotiations in the Russian capital were held between January 26 and 29.
The January talks in Moscow were the first attempt to settle the Syrian conflict since January 2014 after a UN-backed conference in Geneva failed to bring any tangible results.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting armed rebel groups. According to the United Nations, almost 4 million people have fled the country amid hostilities.
