SANAA (Sputnik) — The Saudi-led coalition's aircraft launched airstrikes on oil storage tanks located west to Yemen's capital Sanaa, a Sputnik correspondent said Monday.
The airstrikes on the oil tanks, belonging to a Yemeni state oil company in al-Sabbah area, caused a fire, according to the correspondent.
Oil storage in al-Sabbah was used to deal with any shortage of crude oil that may arise on the domestic market. The attacked oil storage had 16 reservoirs, eight with gasoline and others with diesel fuel.
Meanwhile, there are reports on restrictions imposed on filling stations on daily sale of fuel for cars since demand for combustible has recently increased.
Yemen is at the epicenter of violent clashes between the Houthi rebel group, the country's main opposition force, and forces loyal to the incumbent president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who has fled the country amid the hostilities.
In late March 2015, a ten-country coalition headed by Saudi Arabia began firing air-to-surface missiles on Houthi positions upon Hadi's request.
