WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Twelve jurors will begin deliberation on Tuesday morning to determine Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s guilt in the Boston Marathon bombing after the prosecution and defense gave closing statements on Monday, according to local media WCVB-5 in Boston.
Prosecutors sent a final message on Monday that Dzhokhar sought to punish America in the April 15, 2013, Boston Marathon bombings that killed three people and injured more than 260.
Dzhokhar faces 30 charges, half of which carry the death penalty.
With much evidence against Dzhokhar, his defense lawyers are seeking to convince the jury his brother Tamerlan was the primary culprit and mastermind behind the attacks in an attempt to avoid the death penalty for Dzhokhar.
A separate jury will sentence Dzhokhar, including the possibility to impose the death penalty.
