MOSCOW, April 8 (Sputnik) — The first in a series of six Admiral Grigorovich class (Project 11356) frigates, being built for the Black Sea Fleet, will be delivered to the Russian Navy in August, the United Shipbuilding Corporation said Wednesday.
"The delivery of the Admiral Grigorovich frigate is planned for August 2015," the company said in a statement.
According to the document, the frigate has completed mooring trials and will soon begin sea trials.
The Project 11356 frigates, displacing 3,850 tons, are designed for anti-ship and anti-submarine warfare as well as for air defense missions, operating both independently or as part of convoys and naval task forces.
The spokesman for the corporation's Yantar shipyard in Russia's westernmost exclave of Kaliningrad, where the 200-capacity frigate was laid down in late 2010, said preparations were being made for scheduled sea trials in mid-April.
The Black Sea Fleet, under the Southern Military District's organizational structure, is stationed in both Crimea and the neighboring Krasnodar Region and operates in the Black and Mediterranean seas.
