MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Some nine percent of those with mental problems keep weapons at home, while one and a half percent of them carry firearms outside, the study showed.
Just a small percentage of the unstable gun owners have been involuntary hospitalized, according to the research. US authorities are not able to use current legal restrictions against the majority, who have never been admitted to a mental institution by force.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention said last year that 11,622 people were killed and 59,077 were wounded in intentional acts of gun violence in 2012 alone.
