The prospects of national reconciliation in Syria are becoming more realistic as the participants of intra-Syrian talks in Moscow continue to bring their positions on key disagreements closer together, opposition leader Qadri Jamil told Sputnik on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The second round of intra-Syrian talks between internal opposition and government officials, aiming to bring an end to the Syrian civil war, began in Moscow on Monday and will continue through Thursday.

"I think we can mention the possibility of agreements with the [Bashar Assad] regime as the antagonisms and controversies are now not as deep as they used to be,” Jamil, who is one of the leaders of the Syrian left-wing opposition People's Will Party and the Popular Front for Change and Liberation, said.

Jamil added that the sides continued to bring closer together their views on the entire range of political issues, including Geneva talks and national reconciliation.

The ceasefire between the Syrian authorities and the opposition is one of the key issues the conflicting sides will discuss Thursday at the fresh round of intra-Syrian talks in Moscow, Qadri Jamil added.

"The issue of ceasefire… is one of the issues in the second package, which will be discussed tomorrow," Jamil said.

The second negotiations package includes issues such as the ceasefire, political prisoners and humanitarian aid, according to Jamil.

"I believe these questions will be resolved if there is an agreement on the first political package."

The parties first met in the Russian capital on January 26-29 to discuss political framework for settling the Syrian crisis.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting armed rebel groups. According to the United Nations, almost 4 million people have fled the country amid hostilities.
