WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The crowd called on prosecuting white police officer Michael Slager responsible for the fatal accident, which took place on Saturday.
“No justice – no peace,” the attendees of the press conference at the North Charleston City Hall Council Chambers chanted.
The video of the shooting, recorded by a passerby, was released on Tuesday. It showed officer Slager, aged 33, shooting 50-year-old Scott in the back.
Slager was arrested later on Tuesday and charged with murder. At present, he is dismissed from North Charleston Police Department (NCPD), according to the NCPD Chef Eddie Driggers.
The US Department of Justice said the case will be investigated by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Mayor Summey noted during the press conference he will provide more information on the accident only after the victim’s burial.

“The mayor got to go,” the crowd shouted, when the mayor was leaving the City Hall Council Chambers.
In the recent months the United States saw a wave of mass protests against police brutality prompted by several killings of unarmed African-American men by white police officers.
Among the most notable recent cases are the killings of Eric Garner, who died after being put in a chokehold by white police officer in New York City, and Michael Brown, a teenager who was fatally shot in Ferguson, Missouri.
