Sweden’s Saab to Upgrade Norway’s Weapon Locating System

Subscribe
Saab, one of the world’s leading defense and security companies, announced that it received a $13 million order from the Norwegian Defense Logistic Company for a prototype of an upgrade of its current Arthur weapon locating complex.

Arthur (Artillery Hunting Radar) is a radar system which locates enemy artillery fire and determines the weapon’s position with a high level of accuracy. It entered service in the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1999 and is used to support infantry brigades.

The order includes an upgrade of the system’s sensor to improve detection range and accuracy and to increase operational flexibility.

Saab is set to develop and produce the prototype at its plant in Halden, Norway, and in Gothenburg, Sweden. The upgrade is planned to be ready by 2017.

The Arthur system is used by many countries, including Sweden, the UK, Italy and Spain, for a wide range of purposes – from fire control of a nation’s own artillery forces to suppressing fire or providing warnings of incoming fire.
