MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's oil company Gazprom Neft does not want to have its case disputing the EU sanctions against Russia postponed by the EU General Court until a precedent is established, Gazprom Neft press service said Friday.

In October 2014, two lawsuits were filed by Gazprom Neft with the General Court, contesting the restrictive measures imposed by the European Union against Russia. The oil company is one of the targets of the restrictive measures.

"The company has been requested by the General Court for the opinion on postponing Gazprom Neft's case until another case by a Russian company contesting the EU sanctions is heard. We object to the case being delayed," the press service told RIA Novosti.

On April 10, Russia's Vedomosti newspaper reported that the EU court wants to hear Russia's Rosneft's case first and only then work on similar cases from Russian companies targeted by sanctions.

Similar lawsuits to dispute the anti-Russia sanctions were also filed October 2014 by a number of Russian banks, namely Sberbank, VTB and VEB.

The European Council has prohibited EU residents and companies to buy and trade in bonds and shares of companies and banks subject to sanctions imposed on Moscow over its alleged involvement in the crisis in Ukraine, an involvement Russia has tirelessly denied.
