Witnesses stated that Army troops responded to the protest with live ammunition, rubber-coated bullets, tear gas, and chemically enhanced sewage water — which is known as “skunk water.” Four Palestinians, including Ziyard Awad, were hit with live ammunition and six were hit with the rubber-coated steel bullets, causing injuries.
Ziyad Awad was shot in his head and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His funeral took place immediately following the shooting and was forced to take an alternate route as Israeli soldiers blocked the procession to the cemetery.
