BEIRUT (Sputnik) – Militants have carried out an attack the Syrian city of Aleppo, killing at least six people, a source at a local hospital told Sputnik on Saturday.
"Three bodies have been delivered to us, along with several dozens of wounded people that were extracted from the rubble. Buildings were destroyed in a missile attack."
The police told Sputnik that dozens of civilians had been killed in the attack on the city's Suleymaniye district, which is considered Aleppo's safe area controlled by the Syrian army. The district is mostly populated by people of Christian belief.
A civil war erupted in Syria in 2011 after a series of anti-government protests that spiraled into an armed conflict, with government forces fighting a number of rebel groups, including Islamic State and Jabha al-Shamia.
According to UN data, more than 220,000 people have been killed in Syria amid hostilities, while almost 4 million have fled the country.
