Russia Sees Military Use of IT Technologies as National Security Threat

"Inappropriate use of such technologies is classified in the new military doctrine as a threat to the national security," Antonov told RIA Novosti.

Antonov said that "color" revolutions, the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the advance of the Islamic State extremist group are all happening under the conditions of growing influence of information and communication technologies.

The new doctrine enlists the use of information and communication technologies for military and political purposes as one of the major external threats to Russia, the first threat on the list being NATO's military expansion close to Russian borders.
