MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier Russia's Foreign Ministry said it planned to evacuate diplomatic staff and foreign citizens from Sanaa on April 11-13.
Russian embassy’s spokesperson said in a phone interview with RIA Novosti:
“Due to the [insecure] situation, the Consular Section [of the Russian Embassy in Sanaa] is halting operations. The employees will be evacuated to Moscow.”
Last week, Russia halted the work of its Consulate General in the southern Yemeni city of Aden evacuating all of its staff. The building of Russian Consulate in Aden has been damaged in Saudi-led coalition’s airstrikes.
Late in March, upon a request by Hadi, a group of Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia started attacking Houthi positions from air. The president has fled the country amid hostilities.
Russia has already evacuated a total of about 600 people including the citizens of Belarus, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Poland, Cuba, Egypt and Syria, from the conflict-torn Yemen.
