Nearly 40 percent of respondents said that they are opposed to Finland's possible NATO membership, while 28 percent supported Helsinki possibly joining the alliance. Thirty-two percent said that they could not or would not say.
Notably, women and those aged between 15 and 22 were less sure of NATO membership than other groups, according to the survey.
The poll found that almost 40 percent of men polled were in favor of NATO membership, which was backed by just a fifth of female respondents.
Last week, the Reservists’ Association released a separate poll, which showed that more than half of reservists said "yes" to Finland's NATO membership.
According to the association’s managing director Olli Nyberg, the latest poll indicates Finns are gravely concerned about the matter.
NATO membership remains on Finland's political radar as the Ukrainian crisis shows no signs of abating. The alliance has repeatedly pointed the finger at Russia for its alleged supply of arms and troops to militias in eastern Ukraine; Russia rejects the accusations.
