The total number of entries now exceeds 2,500, with works submitted by young photographers from 45 countries.
Among the contest participants are photojournalists from Russia, Europe, North and South America, India and Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa, who have an opportunity to showcase various photography techniques and experiment with color as well as black and white photos.
Futuristic images of metropolises, portraits, provincial scenes, bright or monochrome landscapes, moments from religious or ethnic holidays, political and sports reportage: all forming part of the dynamically changing modern photographic environment, according to the young participants. The diversity of the subjects and points of view on display in the contest proves that the contemporary world of photography has no visual or ethnic boundaries.
The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest is aimed at promoting photography, raising awareness about the purpose and challenges of photojournalism, and supporting young photographers. It will introduce members of the world photography community to new names, support high standards in photojournalism, and help establish quality criteria for documentary photography in Russia and abroad.
The contest is being supported by the Xinhua News Agency, the Royal Photographic Society, the Indonesian Press Photo Agency Antara Foto, RT, RBTH (Russia Beyond the Headlines), the Moscow International Centre for Journalism (MICJ), Tutto Digitale Magazine, the Academy of Photography, Vesti.ru online newspaper, Foto&Video magazine, Geophoto.ru agency, jourdom.ru portal, Fototehnika portal, Russian Photo, the Moscow Union of Journalists, photo-study.ru photography education web site, Russian Photo portal, School of Visual Arts, YOJO.ru web platform for young journalists and Foto.ru club.
Young photographers between the ages of 18 and 33 are eligible to take part in the competition, which will allow them to establish their professional credentials and widen their professional network.
The contest's four categories include "Top News," "Current Issues," "Sports" and "Everyday Life."
Three prizes for first, second and third places will be awarded in each category, plus a special Grand Prix prize. The 500,000 ruble (about $9,500 at the current exchange rate) Grand Prix will be awarded to the journalist with the most interesting and impressive photos, as chosen by the jury. The prize for first place will be 50,000 rubles ($950), for second 35,000 rubles ($670) and 25,000 rubles ($475) for third place.
Rossiya Segodnya news agency's photojournalist Andrei Stenin went missing on August 5, 2014 in eastern Ukraine while on an editorial assignment. In September 2014, investigators confirmed that Stenin died near the city of Donetsk.
He was awarded the Russian Order of Courage posthumously for bravery and heroism in the performance of his professional duties.
