The UN Security Council resolution banning arms supplies to Houthi militias will not stop the conflict or the fight against al-Qaeda in Yemen, Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a senior official in the Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement told Lebanese television.
Tuesday's UNSC resolution banned lethal aid supplies to Houthi militias while permitting arms shipments to forces opposing them. Russia abstained from voting but did not use its veto power to block the resolution.
"The Security Council resolution is unjust and cannot hinder the Yemeni people from completing the revolution and destroying al-Qaeda in Yemen," al-Bukhaiti told al-Mayadeen television.
"There is no need for us to react to any UN resolutions, which have no practical strength on the ground," he added.
On Tuesday, the Saudi Arabia-led coalition airlifted crates with military aid to four provinces in central and southern Yemen.
