MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Warsaw court postponed till May 20 the announcement of the decision regarding the cancellation of the residence permit of Leonid Sviridov, a Rossiya Segodnya freelance correspondent, lawyer Jaroslaw Chelstowski said Tuesday.

On October 24, 2014, Poland’s Foreign Ministry denied to prolong media accreditation to Sviridov without specifying reasons for such a move.

Sviridov has been working in Poland since 2003 and previously has not had any problems with the media accreditation prolongation.

Poland to Decide on Cancellation of Russian Journalist's Residence Permit
Jaroslaw Chelstowski, lawyer for the Russian journalist, said that in accordance with the Polish legislation Sviridov can examine materials related to the case while the court hearing is delayed.

“We intend to invoke this right shortly and as agreed with the Department of Foreigners we plan to examine materials related to the case,” Chelstowski said.

Earlier it was reported that all materials related to Sviridov’s case were classified.

On October 29, 2014, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Poland’s decision to deny further media accreditation to freelance correspondent Leonid Sviridov, working for Rossiya Segodnya, violates the basic principles of a democratic society.
