WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Special interest money should be kept out of politics and that goal must be accomplished even by introducing a constitutional amendment, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during an education roundtable in Monticello, Iowa.
“We need to fix our dysfunctional political system by getting unaccountable money out of politics even if it takes a constitutional amendment,” Clinton said on Tuesday at the Kirkwood Community College.
Clinton explained she believes the United States is still the world’s leading economy, but the country needs to build an economy of tomorrow and not of yesterday.
Clinton further explained the wish to help US families comes from her own personal experience with her mother who was mistreated and neglected as a child, and her father who was a successful small business owner that provided for his family.
“We have got to sort this out, and take on those interests that want to keep the system as it is,” Clinton said.
Hillary Clinton is the former US Secretary of State under President Barack Obama from 2009 until 2013. Clinton officially announced she would join the 2016 US presidential race on Sunday.
