MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro may attend Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9, the republic’s ambassador to Russia said Thursday.

On May 9, Russia will celebrate the 70th anniversary of Victory Day, marking the victory over Nazi Germany in the World War II.

“We expect [the visit] to be confirmed later this week or next week,” Juan Vicente Paredes Torrealba told RIA Novosti.

Russia has sent invitations to numerous world leaders, inviting them to attend the Victory Parade in Moscow on May 9.

Speaking to China National Radio on Sunday, Renmin University Professor Jin Canrong explained Russia and China's common positions regarding the Second World War, noting that the Chinese leadership's participation in May's victory celebrations in Moscow signifies the high level of Russian-Chinese relations. - Sputnik International

At least 25 state leaders have accepted Moscow's invitation to commemorate the date next month, when servicemen from more than 10 countries will march on Moscow’s Red Square, according to Kremlin Chief of Staff Sergei Ivanov.

A full list of the participants in the events will be announced by the end of April.
