Nearly half of Moldova’s residents oppose the idea of their country joining NATO, according to a "Public Opinion Barometer" survey released in Kishinev on Thursday.
"Overall, 48.3% of respondents did not support Moldova’s entry into NATO", executive director of the Public Policy Institute Arkady Barbarosie said.
The survey results also showed that only 23.2% of residents would be in favor of Moldova joining NATO if a referendum on this issue were held next Sunday. Most supporters of Moldova’s entry into NATO are young people aged 18 to 29 years (33%). NATO opponents in this age group constitute 44.1%.
The poll was conducted in the period of March 28 — April 7, 2015, by the Institute for Sociological and Marketing Research CBS-AXA.
