LONDON (Sputnik) — The United Kingdom's silence over the "appalling" recent killings of journalists in Ukraine is a "disgrace," the Russian embassy in London said Friday.
"Journalist killings in Ukraine [are] appalling. But not a word of condemnation from Britain. What a disgrace."
On Thursday, Ukrainian opposition journalist Oles Buzina, a former columnist and editor of the daily newspaper Segodnya, was shot dead in Kiev by two men wearing masks. Buzina was known for his criticism of the current Ukrainian government. He advocated for a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis and the country's federalization.
Some hours earlier, on Wednesday evening, former Ukrainian member of parliament and government critic Oleh Kalashnikov, 52, was murdered at his residence in Kiev. Kalashnikov was also a vocal critic of the country's ruling government.
A series of recent killings of well-known politicians and journalists in Ukraine resemble a campaign of political terror, a senior Russian diplomat said Friday.
Earlier in the day, Ravina Shamdasani, the spokeswoman for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, condemned the recent killings in Ukraine and called for an investigation into the incidents.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the latest killings political crimes. Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko, in turn, said it was a provocation against Ukraine and called for a probe into the incidents.
