MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia and Belarus stand together in honoring the memory of those perished in the World War II despite the Belarusian leader's decision to skip the Victory Day parade in Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.
"Our closest ally, the president of Belarus, will attend a similar parade in Minsk on May 9. Belarus honors the memory of the fallen by holding massive celebrations. We are together, and Belarus shares our feelings," he said.
On May 9, Moscow will host a massive military parade to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. At least 25 international leaders are expected to attend the event.
Most of European leaders have declined Russia's invitation, citing Moscow's alleged aggression toward Ukraine.
