Loretta Lynch's Record Wait for US Attorney General Vote Coming to End

 

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The US Senate has reached a bipartisan path forward on the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act clearing the way to confirm US President Barack Obama’s nomination of Loretta Lynch for US Attorney General, according to a press release issued by US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday.

“I’m glad we can say there is a bipartisan proposal that will allow us to complete action on this important legislation [trafficking bill],” McConnell stated in the release. “As soon as we finish the trafficking bill… we'll move to the President's [Obama] nominee for attorney general—hopefully in the next day or so.”

US Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid commended Republicans on moving forward with the trafficking bill.

“After weeks of pointless stalling on the bipartisan human trafficking bill, our Republican colleagues have finally agreed to a path forward,” Reid said on Twitter. “This agreement is good news. Let's now get Loretta Lynch confirmed quickly.”

President Obama nominated Lynch for the attorney general position on November 8, 2014. Lynch has been waiting for a vote in the US Congress to be confirmed longer than any other US Attorney General nominee in modern history.
