MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Pakistani militant organization Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also referred to as the Pakistani Taliban, has claimed to have test-fired its first independently developed missile called "Omar-1," The Times of India reports.
According to the Indian daily, TTP has issues a statement and a video demonstrating the assembly and successful launch of the missile.
"It [Omar-1] can easily be assembled and dissembled in accordance to the situation," TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurassani was quoted as saying by The Times of India on Tuesday. Khurassani added that the missile's effectiveness will put the enemies of the Pakistani Taliban “on the run.”
The Taliban is a militant group founded in the 1990s seeking to establish sharia law in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The group is known to have carried out multiple terror attacks against authorities and civilians, many of them children, in both countries.
The Pakistani Taliban, or TTP, is an umbrella organization of various Islamist militant groups based in northwestern Pakistan, along the Afghan border. It includes most, but not all, Pakistani Taliban groups.
In December 2014, the Pakistani Taliban attacked an army-run school in Peshawar, northwestern Pakistan, killing some 130 people, mostly children.
