WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US state of Florida Governor Rick Scott has dismissed an invitation to meet with President Barack Obama upon the President’s arrival in Miami because of disagreements between the two officials on a range of issues, White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz said in a press briefing.
“I can confirm to you that he [Rick Scott] was invited to meet us upon arrival in Miami,” Schultz said on Wednesday. “No, I don’t think,” he added in response to being asked whether the White House team is disappointed about Scott not meeting the President.
Disagreements between Obama and Scott come over allegations that Scott banned the term “climate change” from official government communications in Florida.
“If it’s not true, we look forward to them contributing to the discussion about one of the most important issues that we face,” Schultz said.
The Deputy Press Secretary added, if the Scott administration is now “joining the rest of us in confirming the impacts of climate change on both the environment and the energy sectors, we welcome that change in position on the Governor’s part.”
Rick Scott has been serving as Florida Governor since January 4, 2011.
