Jonathan Hardin was indicted on one count of assault, one count of wanton endangerment and one count of official misconduct, according to Louisville Fox affiliate WDRB.
Hardin was working as a Louisville Metro Police Department officer assigned to the middle school when he allegedly used a choke hold on a 13-year-old until the student lost consciousness.
A complaint states that after the teen came to, Hardin then handcuffed the juvenile.
Hardin was also accused of pushing a 13-year-old student and then punching the teen because Hardin believed he had cut in line, according to a police citation.
The teen was treated at a local children's hospital for his injuries.
Hardin then filed charges against the student for menacing and resisting arrest, "based on facts he knew to be false," says a copy of a criminal complaint obtained by WDRB.
After the accusations were made public, Hardin was suspended without pay then fired.
The families of each of Hardin’s victims have filed lawsuits against Hardin, the city and the school board.
One of the suits says police were aware of at least five other incidents in which Hardin used “excessive force and abusive behavior” toward students at two different schools. Despite his background, he remained a school resource officer, allowing him to allegedly assault more students.
