The authorities of Jiangxi province in southeast China have confirmed the death of at least 21 miners, who died when the shaft there were working was filled with water, news reports said.
A total of 247 miners were reportedly in the shaft when the accident occurred there earlier this week.
223 people managed to make it to the surface; another three were rescued and subsequently hospitalized. The bodies of 21 miners were finally recovered by rescue teams earlier on Thursday.
