MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia will continue supplying Cuban armed forces with modern weapons and military equipment, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Friday.
"We are intent on continuing cooperation in supplying the Revolutionary Cuban Armed Forces with modern weaponry and military equipment," Shoigu said during a meeting with Vice President of Cuban Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas in Moscow.
The two countries have a long history of friendly relations and cooperation, dating back to Soviet times.
In March, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during his visit to Cuba, that the two countries are preparing large-scale joint projects in the fields of energy and civil aviation.
In February, Shoigu, also on a visit to Cuba, pointed out that Moscow and Havana share similar stances on the issue of global security and continue to develop their relations in the military-technical sphere.
