US Should Send Diplomats, Not Military to Ukraine – German Politician

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The West should take into account Russia's interests before making any decision on Ukraine, Alexander Gauland, of the Alternative for Germany party, said.

"As of now, the talks on Ukraine have been held, let's put it this way, only by European sides. In which case it is wrong for the United States to send its military advisers to Ukraine. US diplomats would be more appropriate there."

The Russian Foreign Ministry deemed the move a violation of the Minsk peace agreements, which stipulate the withdrawal of all foreign forces in Ukraine.

"Historically, politically, culturally and religiously Ukraine has always been part of – let's say it carefully – Russia's sphere of influence. This is why the formation of independent Ukraine is possible only with Russia's participation and not against it."
