The tiny European nation takes only 5 percent of aerial missions conducted by the anti-ISIL coalition led by the United States in Iraq and Syria. Six Belgian F-16 fighter jets are used by 110 people and operate from an air base in Jordan.
Frederik Vansina, the commander of the air component of the Belgian Army, said during a press conference in Brussels:
"Our aircraft neutralized 107 ground targets at the request of the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga (Kurdish military forces in Northern Iraq)."
The US-led coalition forces of over 60 nations started a large-scale air campaign against ISIL in Syria and Iraq last August. The airstrikes are supported by multiple on-going operations by the Iraqi and Kurdish Security Forces to put more pressure on ISIL throughout Syria and Iraq.
