MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A number of smaller earthquakes occurred in Nepal following the 7.8-magnitude quake that hit the country on Saturday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reports.
The strongest of the minor quakes was of a 5.6 magnitude, according to EMSC. It occurred at 23:16 GMT on Saturday in the Nepal-India border region, about 47 kilometres (29 miles) northwest of Kathmandu, at a depth of 10 kilometres (32,800 feet).
Over 1,500 were killed as a result of the major earthquake, including at least 18 who died under avalanches, while hundreds are still feared to be trapped under collapsed buildings or buried in snow.
Several Indian regions along the Nepalese border were also affected by the earthquake, with 36 casualties having been reported by India's authorities.
A number of world nations, including India and Russia have offered to help Nepal in its emergency relief efforts, allocating financial aid or rescue teams.
