MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Diplomat Azamat Kulmuhametov has been appointed as a special representative of Russia in trilateral contact group on Ukraine reconciliation, Kremlin said Monday.
"To entrust Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Kulmuhametov Azamat Rakhmetovich with a duty of an Acting Special Representative of the Russian Federation in the contact group on the Ukrainian reconciliation," a presidential decree posted on Kremlin's website said.
A career diplomat, Kulmuhametov has served as a Russian ambassador to Syria and Kuwait. In March, he led a Russian delegation on its visit to Damascus, where he met with Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The Russian side in the contact group was previously represented by Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov.
In February, the Contact Group signed a ceasefire deal for Ukraine in Minsk, Belarus.
The document worked out by the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany, stipulates a ceasefire in Donbas, which came into force on February 15, among 12 other points.
