MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The direct service will allow to exclude the so-called patent trolls — entities that collect money by threatening other companies to file patent lawsuits. The defendants are often forced to pay, as trials are too expensive.
The company said it would notify the submitters about its willingness to buy the patents by June 26, with first payments to the selected owners expected by late August.
"Hopefully this will translate into better experiences for sellers, and remove the complications of working with entities such as patent trolls," the statement reads.
According to media reports, Google has been one of the companies advocating adoption of legislation against patent trolls. A respective legislation can reportedly be considered by the US Congress in 2015, making litigation less profitable for patent trolls.
