Micro Muscle: Tiny Robot Pulls 2000 Times Its Own Weight

Subscribe
Researchers at Stanford University have created a tiny robot that uses adhesive properties to be able to tow up to 2000 times it's own weight along a smooth surface.

The 12-gram bots — inspired by geckos — use adhesive patches to stick to a surface so they can haul the impressive weights behind them. They then un-stick, inch themselves forward and stick again to advance their load across the surface.

While there's no clear practical application at this point, researchers may be able to scale them up to, for example, haul heavy objects at construction sites.
