A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal on Saturday, causing severe destruction in parts of the country.

The earthquake and its numerous powerful aftershocks claimed the lives of more than 5,000 people, including dozens of climbers who were hit by earthquake-triggered avalanches on Mount Everest.
Countries across the world have offered Nepal both financial and practical assistance to cope with the disaster.
