It reported that it was not immediately clear if the shooting was linked to the Tuesday night protest which saw about 50 people gather and block traffic near the site of last year's tragedy. Witnesses said that people in a crowd allegedly hurled rocks at police officers.
Meanwhile, law enforcers have recovered a gun from the scene of the shooting, according to the newspaper, which quoted St. Louis County Police spokesman Brian Schellman as saying that his department responded to a request by Ferguson police "to provide extra manpower" in the city. He declined to elaborate.
During these riots, which took place over the death of a man injured while in police custody, the National Guard was called out for the first time since 1968 to contain unrest in Baltimore.
