The incident happened in the Exarchia area of the capital, a neighborhood, well-known as a home for Greek anarchists.
According to the minister, neither he nor his wife have suffered any injuries as the crowd apparently had no intention of physically attacking them.
“Despite any speculations, it was neither a planned attack or otherwise attempt to seriously injure, nor a provocation as part of the recent policy against me,” said the politician.
The argument initially started inside the restaurant but after Danae Stratou interfered, the anarchists had to leave the building, They however continued their insults when the couple left the restaurant and were going home.
The minister said that the incident reminded him of early 2000, when he resided and taught in the area and experienced similar insults from the anarchists.
Anarchists often stage disorders in this area of Athens, clashing with police and rallying against establishment.
